Besan Dhokla

Make a thick smooth batter by adding besan (gram flour), curd, salt and water . Keep it aside for fermentation for 3-4 hours.
After 4 hours add ginger and green chilly paste, turmeric and mix well. Now set the steamer or cooker ready in gas. Grease the plate. In a small bowl take lemon and a spoon of soda bi carb or eno. Mix well. Add this to the batter and mix the batter in one direction. Pour the batter in the greased plate and place it in the steamer or cooker. Cover it with the lid and steam it for 10-12 mins. Cool it and cut it into big cubes.

Ingredients (10 – 12 pieces) :-
350gms Gram flour (Besan)
1cup low fat Curd (Stirred)
1tsp Green Chilies (paste)
1tsp Ginger (paste)
Salt to taste
1tsp Soda bi-carb / Eno fruit salt
1 Lemon juice
1/2 tsp. turmeric powder
1tbsp Oil

For Tampering -

Few Curry leaves
1tsp Mustard Seeds
1 tsp Oil
Coriander leaves (chopped)
2-3 green chilies (vertically slit)
Instructions  for making Besan Dhokla:-

  • Make a thick smooth batter by adding besan (gram flour), curd, salt and water . Keep it aside for fermentation for 3-4 hours.
  • After 4 hours add ginger and green chilly paste, turmeric and mix well. Now set the steamer or cooker ready in gas. Grease the plate.
  • In a small bowl take lemon and a spoon of soda bi carb or eno. Mix well. Add this to the batter and mix the batter in one direction.
  • Pour the batter in the greased plate and place it in the steamer or cooker. Cover it with the lid and steam it for 10-12 mins.
  • Cool it and cut it into big cubes.
  • Heat little oil in a small pan and add mustard seeds and curry leaves allow to splutter. Remove and pour it over dhoklas.
  • Garnish the besan dhokla with coriander and slited green chilies.
  • Serve with green chutney.
