Process of photosynthesis

Have you ever wondered how do plant grow from a tiny seed into a beautiful plant or a tree. How? What they eat? and who cooks for them?

Plants make their own food by a process called photosynthesis.

The word photosynthesis is made up of two words-

Photo which means light and synthesis which means putting together.

Photosynthesis is not important only for the plants but for us too because through this process they leave oxygen in the environment which we breathe in to survive.

Plants need not only water from the soil but also sunlight from the sun and carbon dioxide from the air to make their food.

Photosythesis take place in the leaves of a plant.

Leaves have layers which we cant see with our naked eyes. The top layer which we see, beneath that layer lies the tiny packed cells in which a structure called chloroplast lies.

The main role of chloroplasts is to conduct photosynthesis as it contains a photosynthetic pigment called chlorophyll  which captures the energy from sunlight . The green colour of the plant is due to chlorophyll.

Xylem the transport tissues in plants carries water from soil through the roots to the shoots and leaves of a plant. Leaves have tiny pores called stomata which facilitates gas exchange. Through stomata plants absorb carbon dioxide.

As water and carbon dioxide enters the leaves it  is absorbed by chloroplast which traps sunlight to synthesis . It synthesis to form food in form of glucose  and releases oxygen in the air as a byproduct through stomata.

Photosynthesis is so essential to life on earth that most living organisms, including humans, cannot survive without it.
