Sarson ka saag

sarson ka saag It is a very famous punjabi main course recipe whose main ingredients are green mustard leaves  and spinach.

Here is the recipe of famous punjabi sarson ka saga which is highly nutritious.

Serves: 3-4
Preparation time: 30 minutes
Cooking time: 20 minutes


Fresh mustard leaves- 3 bunches
Fresh spinach- 1 bunch
Fenugreek leaves ( methi leaves)- 1/2 bunch
Onions- 2 (sliced)
Ginger- 1 inch piece (grated)
Garlic- 7-8 cloves (crushed)
Green chillies- 2 (chopped)
Cumin seeds- 1tsp
Wheat flour – 2tbsp
Salt- as per taste
Ghee- 2tbsp


Clean and wash the mustard spinach leaves and fenugreek leaves properly with water. Remove all impurities.
After washing the leaves, chop them finely and place them in cooker with 1 1/2 glass of water.Add garlic, ginger and green chillies. Keep the cooker  on fire till  6-7 whistles  switch off the flame and allow it to cool.
When the saag cools down completely, grind this in a mixer into a coarse paste.    Now keep it back on flame, add flour in the saag. Cook it for 7-10 mins or till it thickens .
Now take a pan, heat oil or ghee  in it add Cumin  seeds, red dried chillies,chopped  garlic 1-2 cloves, onions  and cook till onions are done. Now add this temper to the leaves mixture.
Simmer on high flame for about 2-3 minutes and then turn off the heat.
Once done, transfer sarson ka saag to a serving platter.
The delicious sarson ka saag is ready to be served. The best combination with this utterly delicious dish is makki ki roti or Indian bread made out of corn flour.
